In three months, a former car storage facility became Supportive Interim Housing for 88 people — a 10× increase in Mountain View's capacity for those experiencing homelessness.
What we delivered
Connect Shelter modules were produced on the assembly line over the course of three months, with the Community Center delivered one month later. The project converted a vacant site into dignified, private housing with ensuite bathrooms, zoned climate control, and communal gathering space.
Why it mattered
Mountain View's existing capacity for unhoused residents was a fraction of the need. By using factory-built shelter modules, the city was able to stand up new supportive housing in a single quarter rather than the multi-year timeline of conventional construction. The project became the reference model for subsequent Homekey deployments across California.
Recognition
The project won the ULI Americas Award for Excellence in 2022, recognizing exceptional land use projects across the Americas.
