Thacher School — Pandemic Student Housing
- Scale
- 15 units / 5 modules
- Location
- Ojai, California
Fifteen units of temporary student housing built from five Shelter 3 modules with ensuite bathrooms, deployed during the pandemic when Thacher needed to rapidly expand on-campus capacity while maintaining health protocols.
What we delivered
Five Shelter 3 modules — fifteen private rooms, each with its own bathroom and zoned climate control. The photos show delivery day before the prefab deck pallets were installed.
The longer story
After Thacher's pandemic need ended, the modules didn't end their useful life. Five of them are being repurposed into permanent housing behind Sunnyside Church in Los Angeles, where they will serve as transitional housing for young people aging out of foster care. The steel-frame platform makes this kind of relocation and repurposing practical — the same module can serve one community for a year and another for decades.
